Darwin sits with Carla while he has his breakfast, they exchange some nice words.
------------------------------------------------
"Good morning Darwin, how are you today?" Carla asks, taking a seat.
"I'm doing well, how are you? How was your sleep in the bed?!" He asked, most curious.
"It was amazing, I slept so well and safe." She giggled.
"I'm glad to hear it, well you'll be sleeping extra snug the next few days too."
"Why?"
"Didn't you hear? Hayden and Joey got into another fight."
She gasped, "Jesus Christ...not again."
"It was Hayden who swung first though."
She was taken aback, "really?! Hayden......wow, he's getting gutsy."
"Ya, off to solitary he goes too with his gutsy ass." Darwin says dramatically, laughing.
"I have to check on Joey then, I hope he's alright."
"Good idea. Oh before you go I wanna share some good news happening with me." He says, smiling warmly.
"Oh what's going on?"
"I wrote to my grandma and she wrote back, she doesn't know I'm in here but she's happy for me and Gino."
"Awww that's lovely Darwin, I lost my grandmother a few years ago but this isn't about me. You told her about Gino?"
"Sorry to hear, ya I told her and she's happy for me. I just wish my great uncle would've, he meant so much to me."
"I know that's tough." Carla says, reaching out and touching his hand. "The people who mind don't matter and the people who don't mind do matter."
"I hear that."
A light bulb went off in her head, she stood abruptly. "Oh you reminded me! I wrote to my mother, I'm waiting to hear back from her."
"Oh good idea to go check then."
"Thank you!" She says cheerfully, heading out of the kitchen and down the hall.
She goes out to the mailbox to check for any mail.
Carla hangs her head but part of her isn't surprised that she wouldn't hear from her mother....
Would she ever again?
