Asylum Challenge #94: Open Up.

It's Joey's turn to open up, how much does he trust her?

-------------------------------------------

"So, tell me about you." Carla says, taking a seat with him at the dining table.

"Well.....I grew up in a family of 4, it was me, my mom, my dad and my little brother. My little  brother got sick and he passed away when I was 13. My dad blamed my mom for his death  and he left shortly after. My mom raised me herself and all alone, until she begged me to put her in a home when I was 23. She didn't want to burden me with her inabilities and her inevitable aging and declining health."

"That's tough, I'm sorry to hear that about your brother and your mom. Do you still speak to her?"

"She doesn't remember me."

Carla reached out and put her hand on top of his. "I can't imagine."

Joey swallowed hard, both overwhelmed from mentally losing his mom but also feeling the warmth of Carla's hand on his, her skin was smooth.

She pulled her hand back, "sorry that was uncalled for."

"Oh no, it's quite alright." He said, smiling through the pain on the face.

"So how was your relationship with your mom? Did you ever had one with your father?" She asked.

"Her and I got along but she always worried that having children ruined her marriage but she also told me not to feel burdened by that but to be honest...I did."

"And your dad?"

"He was my best friend till my brother died, then he became my worst enemy. He wouldn't even send a dime to my mom, so she had to work two jobs until I was old enough but my mom refused any money I had to offer her, outside the bills."

"She sounds like an amazing woman, I mean besides her mental turmoil."

"She really was."
